Reformed Church Home Reaps $53,000 in Energy RebatesEnergy Implementation Saves Client 200,000 Kilowatt Hours. COLLINGSWOOD, NJ -- (June 2, 2009)--Reformed Church Home of Old Bridge, New Jersey, was awarded rebate checks today in the amount $53,000 from the New Jersey Clean Energy Program. The checks were presented by Marty Rosica, president of Collingswood-based mechanical contractor Hawks and Company to Kate Shepard, Executive Director/ Administrator of Reformed Church Home, and Russ Nagy, Director of Environmental Services of Sodexo. An active proponent of energy conservation, Reformed Church Home has partnered with Hawks and Company since 2006 on more than a dozen energy saving projects at its Old Bridge location. In 2008, Hawks kicked off the Home's largest such project by integrating new energy management systems and optimizing the performance of the mechanical systems in effort to reduce the facility's overall energy consumption. "Our mission was to develop an integrated program that combined HVAC, lighting systems, and energy management to reduce Reformed Church Home's total energy consumption," stated Rosica. "We coordinated our energy management solutions in accordance with the New Jersey Clean Energy Program requirements, and are thrilled to present checks in excess of $50,000 to Reformed Church Home." Shepard added, "This project has saved us more than 200,000 kilowatt hours of energy consumption and at the same time extends the life cycle of our equipment. With the added incentive checks from New Jersey Clean Building Council, this project makes sense--from an energy perspective and from a financial standpoint. This was a painless process; I can't believe more building owners aren't doing this." The Hawks solution was comprised of three components: a cooling tower retrofit, an energy management system optimization, and a domestic booster pump system modification. The cooling tower fan retrofit included downsizing the existing motors, installing variable frequency drives (VFD's), and integrating a control strategy that maximized efficiency. The Johnson Control energy management system controls the common area heat pumps, along with the make up air systems, pumps, and the common area lighting. The domestic booster pump system was modified and the pump was downsized. A VFD was installed to maintain the required amount of water pressure in the building.
